Know Thyself, and the Delphi method (nominal group technique)

The Delphi (nominal group) technique can help law departments with their strategic planning, and problem solving generally. With this technique, a group from the department, clients, outside counsel – brainstorms a number of potential changes in the law department and votes on those likely changes. What changes are the most plausible?

The three or four changes that receive the most votes then undergo further research and discussion. Another vote narrows down that group. The process ends when there are two or three points well understood by the group and agreed to be the most important determinants of the future.
