In August 2006, the photo-website Flickr stored over 225 million photos and was adding more at the rate of almost a million a day. Having read these astonishing facts in David Weinberger, Everything is Miscellaneous: The Power of the New Digital Disorder (Henry Holt 2007) at 21, I naturally wondered whether there are any pictures in that huge repository that have been tagged with “law department” or “legal department” or “general counsel.”
This morning, I checked. The first screen bowled me over as it mentioned that 3,087 pictures had been uploaded in the last minute! As a devout blogger, researcher and data hound, still I persevered.
Flickr has on it 110 pictures that are tagged “law department.” The first one is the emblem of the New York City Law Department, posted on Oct. 7, 2006. Nearly all the other pictures are of university law departments (aka law schools). As to “legal department” there were 68 photos. I liked the group picture of a very large legal department (unidentifiable) that was uploaded on Nov. 8, 2007. Under the tag “general counsel” Flickr has 128, including a shot uploaded on Jan. 26, 2007 of Richard Salgado, the general counsel of Yahoo!.
