Recent or upcoming conferences with sessions on law department management

The Australian Corporate Lawyers Association’s National Conference 2005, held Nov. 10-11, 2005, had sessions on “Practice management updates,” “DIY rescue: Hypothetical on resolving ethical dilemmas facing in-house lawyers,” and “Looking ahead: Lawyers as leaders.” No, I don’t know what DIY means.

The 28th Annual Corporate Counsel Institute, organized by the School of Law, The Univ. of Texas at Austin, will take place on April 6-7, 2006 in Houston and May 11-12, 2006 in Dallas. Relevant sessions include “What keeps the general counsel awake at night,” “Litigation management toolbox – what every in-house counsel needs to manage litigation,” “Confidentiality, fees and conflicts: It’s not the same ol’ rodeo,” and “Managing your in-house career: Positioning yourself to succeed in a corporate organization.”

The In-House Legal Congress, organized by Terrapinn for Aug. 1-4, 2006 in Johannesburg, South Africa, includes such conference topics as “Collaborations between in-house and outside counsel,” “Adopting effective management strategies for your in-house legal department,” “Motivating your in-house team,” and “Managing the internal client.”
